Often thought of as a condition that only those with sizeable thighs suffer
from, in reality, chafing thighs can plague anyone. Avoiding the situation is
the best way to avoid the suffering it causes. This is very often not possible,
however, especially for those who are athletes or at least very active. To make
matters worse, sweating only worsens the pain. This is not good because most
activities that cause this condition involve sweating. Running or exercising
that involves running or walking motions are the most common causes, as they
involve repetitive movement of the inner thigh, causing them to either rub
against each other or inappropriate clothing, causing thigh chafing.
Since stopping the activity is almost
never an option, the first thing to consider is clothing. Are thighs rubbing
against each other, or is the clothing the culprit? Look for materials labeled
as "anti-chafing." These are designed to reduce if not avoid chafing altogether.
Once the clothing issue is settled, consider if a lubricant might help. There
are some very good cream that can prevent
inner thigh chafing and protect the skin from damage caused by friction.
These are also useful for healing in the unlikely event that chafing does occur.
No matter how much prevention is practiced, sometime it is impossible to
avoid inner thigh chafing. In this case, healing and comfort becomes the
priority. Give the skin as much opportunity to heal as possible by avoiding
course clothing, or any clothing that continuously irritates the area during the
course of everyday life. Also, make sure the area stays dry, and try a healing
lotion to speed healing and increase comfort. Though it is not something many
like to talk about, it can be helpful to speak with someone else more
experienced in whatever activity is causing the thigh chafing about how they
deal with the problem.
Thigh chafing is an extremely common issue, but due to the sensitive nature
of it, many just suffer through in silence not realizing they can nip it in the
bud. Be sure to wear soft, snug, comfortable bottoms that move with the skin.
Use a lubricant if necessary to reduce friction. Try to be active in the coolest
environment possible, as sweat making chafing worse. If the issue does occur,
let the skin rest, apply a healing lotion, and make sure the area is thoroughly
taken care of. If necessary, do not participate in chafing causing activity
until the skin is healed. Then, once healed, practice good prevention methods.
