Cracked Feet

Cracked Feet – The Causes Behind This Condition and How to Treat It

It doesn’t matter if you are an athlete or just an everyday, regular person, nobody is immune from being affected by a case of cracked feet.  Now, for most people, having this condition pop up on you won’t be much of an issue.  After all, for the average person, having cracked skin on your feet is really nothing more than a slight annoyance.  Sometimes the only thing that really bothers people is the fact that having cracked skin on the feet causes them to not look very appealing, causing more of a cosmetic issue than anything.  Even though cracks on your feet might be a non-issue at first, they later become painful, if the crack starts to deepen, or even lead to infection if left untreated.

The biggest reason that most people experience cracked feet is simply due to having dry skin.  Some people just have a natural dryness to their skin and there are no other outside factors that come into play for these people.  Others don’t have naturally dry skin, but there are factors in their environment that cause their skin to dry out easier.  These outside forces can be anything from living in a climate that is too hot or too cold with lower levels of humidity than usual to bathing more than you should.   Using soaps that are too harsh on the skin can also cause them to dry out as well.

Once you skin dries out on your feet, other circumstances can hasten your path to ending up with cracked feet.  Usually these other factors will cause more pressure on the dry skin on your feet, which is what leads to the cracking.  One such example is wearing open back shoes, as this will let the fat under your heel to spill out sideways, causing the skin to crack.  Think about a tomato being pressed down on a hard surface because that is essentially what happens.  Standing up for long periods of time, especially on a harder floor, will also lead to cracking skin on your feet.  Being overweight is also another thing that can cause cracked skin on your feet, as it increases the amount of pressure being put onto your foot.  When the skin expands outwards, it will crack, just like in the tomato example provided above.

The best thing you can do to help prevent and fix cracked feet is to regularly use our Pro Therapy Foot Treatment, which is a moisturizing foot cream.  Increasing the amount of moisture on your feet obviously will help keep it from drying out, thus keeping the skin from cracking.
