A New Treatment for Heel
Pain
Many people suffer from heel pain at some point in their lives. A
common cause of heel pain is Plantar Fasciitis, which involves a strong
ligament-type structure attaching to the bottom of the heel. This often
involves the presence of a heel spur, as well. There are numerous
treatments including appropriate shoes and orthotics. Wall-stretching
exercises can be helpful if done routinely. Anti-inflammatory medications
and corticosteroid injections are sometimes needed as well.
Should these treatments fail to give patients relief of their symptoms, there
are various surgical options. We are using a new, minimally invasive
treatment, called Topaz. This treatment involves controlled,
micro-debridements of the fascial band. This improves vascularity and, in
turn, induces a healing response. We have been having great success with
this treatment.
